Monday and today I stayed home while Joseph went out to do his work.  The neighbourhood, here in Langley, is quiet and there are lots of trees, shrubs, and flowers. The street is busy enough to be interesting.  The people are friendly, usually saying hello as they pass by while I am outside having a smoke!

Just across the street and up a block there is a small strip mall with a supermarket, TD Canada Trust, pizza shop, Army and Navy store, etc.  On this side mere metres away there is a Thai restaurant and a Vietnamese.  We ate at the Vietnamese one on Friday.  They have good food, are busy, and it is one of Joseph's favourites.

The bus stop is in front of the restaurant.  There is a very comfortable bench, too.  I like to sit there and watch the passersby and chat with someone waiting.  It is definitely senior friendly here.  For example, at the supermarket there is a chair by the check outs.  Right inside the Army and Navy store there are three chairs.

Many use scooters, and there are two old fellows who are quite funny.  One has a "roof" attached to his (keeps the rain out).  These two guys always look as if they are racing each other.  There are so many using scooters for transportation to and from the stores.  They get up and go into the stores fine, but it is a quick, economical way to get around the neighbourhood, and to carry groceries home.  Walkers are also big.  The folks appear to be able to walk well (better than me), but I suppose the extra support for balance and the "always there chair" is good.

So far I have not seen Vancouver!!!! Will do soon, and I am sure the change will be incredible since I was here 35 years ago.  I am well rested after our weekend adventure and ready to go out tomorrow.  I only have a few things on my "to do" list, and have already checked off the traditional pow wow.  I know we have a big pow wow at the Six Nations reserve near Brantford, but it is big and cannot hold a candle to the intimate one in Shaken.

Let's see what tomorrow brings?
